Keysbrook, Serpentine
Wake up to horses and sheep roaming around the farm at our accommodation in Serpentine.
Our cabins are set amongst the trees on a working farm in Keysbrook, nestled on the side of Karnet Nature Reserve. Share the land with the horses, ponies and sheep that live here, and enjoy views over the neighbouring hills of the nature reserve.
The farm where our cabins are situated is located on Noongar boodja (country). Whadjuk Binjareb/Pinjarup, Ganeang and Wilman peoples wandered over this land during the six seasons, hunting and gathering, attending ceremonies and trading. The Darling Scarp and Serpentine bilya (river) supported the Noongar peoples and was an important place of cultural connection. That connection to the land is enduring and can be seen through their sustainable land management and cultural practices.

Things to do in Serpentine
Known for its beautiful waterfalls, bushwalking trails and unique native wildlife, Serpentine is the ideal destination for the outdoorsy type looking for a reset.
The natural waterfall and swimming hole, Serpentine Falls is a 15-minute drive from our Keysbrook accommodation. You’ll find the falls in the national park, with other bushwalks and trails to enjoy. It’s the ideal spot to spend a warm sunny day with barbecue, picnic facilities and toilets available.
If you’re looking for a quieter spot on the water, we’d recommend the North Dandalup Dam that’s just a 5-minute drive away. The serene dam is nestled near the bushland with barbecue and picnic facilities, making it ideal for days out with the whole family.
Jarrahdale is also close by with several walking trails to choose from. Our favourites are Kitty’s Gorge Walk Trail, Jarradhale Railway Heritage Trail, and Baldwin’s Bluff Trail.
The Millbrook Winery is also just a 25-minute drive from our accommodation, located on a picturesque Chestnut farm among jarrah forests and a beautiful lake. Pop into their cellar door for a wine tasting or grab a table at their award-winning restaurant.
If you’re looking for something a little more relaxed the Jarrahdale Tavern isn’t too far, with a playground and dog-friendly beer garden. The King Road Brewing Co is also close by, providing a family friendly space to grab a drink and a meal.

Sammy and Mikala’s story
It’s at this time of the year when everything starts to become more chaotic than normal, and you just need an escape to reset. As soon as we heard about this new secluded cabin surrounded by nature, we just knew we had to pack our bags and get away.
OUR TRIP
Located only an hour south of Perth, it is the perfect spot for a getaway for anyone who just needs an escape to reconnect with nature, but without travelling extensive distances. The Serpentine valley is beautiful and full of activities and looks different all year round. With Serpentine Falls and incredible bushwalks right on your back door step, you will leave this incredible cabin feeling refreshed, re-connected and energised.
On our drive down, we stocked up on supplies, fruit, cheeses, crackers, anti-pesto, and of course red wine. We knew that the closest grocery store was around 20 minutes away, so we made sure to stock up to make the most out of the getaway.

As soon as you arrive at the cabin, you are blown away. Surrounded by nature in the middle of a paddock on farmland, the first thing you notice is how quiet it is.
Nothing but the sound of birds chirping, the bustle of the wind through the trees, or the occasional sounds from the donkeys… Yes, that’s right, there are donkeys!
As you approach the cabin, you can just get a sense of how special this place is. Amazing views, a huge viewing glass window, an outdoor netting to relax, an outdoor fire-pit and barbecue. Inside the cabin, we were very impressed by the amazing space inside – It is deceivingly impressive to see. As you walk inside you will find a large queen bed, a bunk bed, a relatively spacious kitchen and seating area, and its very own separate internal bathroom with an amazing, high-pressured shower and toilet.

There is something about it that makes it so cosy, but it is also so spacious at the same time. This off-grid cabin accommodation is the ultimate place to stay if you need the perfect getaway. Board games, card games, nature walks – these are just a few things we did to have fun and relax. Secluded, away from any metropolitan light pollution, you can lay on the outdoor netting with a blanket and pillow and spend hours on end stargazing. We spent hours watching the colours in the sky slowly begin to change and counting how many shooting stars we could see whilst sipping on a glass of red wine. Being off-grid really made you feel relaxed and we left feeling recharged and energised. It was exactly what we needed.
Hot tip – Turn off all the lights and fall asleep with the blind’s ups on the large viewing window looking out towards nature. There is nothing more beautiful than falling asleep watching the stars move above you. You won’t forget it! This was an experience I will never forget, and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
